A hospitalist is a physician that sees patients strictly in a hospital setting.

What do hospitalists do?

Hospitalists are typically certified in internal medicine. Hospitalists are familiar with the hospital’s systems, facilities, and staff members, and maintain close relationships with specialty physicians. Hospitalists will also develop treatment plans, teach patients about their conditions, and consult with other physicians in various specialties to determine the best care for their patients.

Hospitalist FAQ

Upon discharge, patients will go back to seeing their regular primary care physician.
Some studies show hospitalists can reduce costs and shorten lengths of stay while preserving or improving quality of care and patient satisfaction.
A hospitalist will provide direct patient care, consultations and pre-optive evaluations from the time a patient is admitted to the emergency room until discharge.
Your hospitalist will be working with a team of individuals including other specialists, nurses, and medical assistants to care for you during your stay.
