Pediatricians are doctors who manage the health of your child, including physical, behavior, and mental health issues. They're trained to diagnose and treat childhood illnesses, from minor health problems to serious diseases.
Pediatrician examine children regularly to assess their growth and development. They treat children who have minor illnesses and chronic health problems, and growth and development concerns.
Most practices will see children until they're 18, and some will attend to them up to age 21.
Your pediatrician will first see your baby most likely at the hospital within 24 hours after you give birth. That said, it’s possible you’ll have a different doctor when you deliver. In that case, you’ll see the pediatrician you chose at your first well-baby visit outside the hospital, which takes place around a week after your little one is born.
1)How do I know if I’m feeding my baby enough? 2)How should I safely bathe my baby and how often? 3)How do I trim those itty-bitty nails (they’re often long in a full-term infant)? 4)How do I make certain my baby’s sleep environment is safe?
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends 7 well-child visits between the ages of 1 and 4. After four years of age, it's recommended that children visit the pediatrician for an annual check-up.
Both pediatricians and family doctors are medical experts, but a pediatrician is able to offer a deeper level of knowledge and expertise when it comes to your child’s health care.
